Dr. DaiWai Olson joined the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, in 2013 and currently works as an Associate Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Additionally, he maintains his clinical practice by working as a staff nurse in the Neuro ICU.
Dr. Olson began his nursing career over 30 years ago at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. In 1994, he moved to North Carolina where he worked at Duke University for almost 20 years before joining the team at the University of Texas Southwestern. Dr. Olson has focused his work on developing a more comprehensive understanding of how nursing care contributes to patient outcomes following acquired brain injury.
Dr. Olson earned his Bachelor’s in Nursing from Marycrest University and his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has published over 150 scientific articles and book chapters, and over 125 scientific abstracts. He is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, co-editor for the AANN Core Curriculum, and an editorial board member for Nature Scientific Reports.
